Suffering refines people, however it cannot make a genuine human being out of them. In order to grow and develop properly, knowledge and love are needed. Growth is related to knowledge, to love, and to good deeds. If your thoughts, feelings, and actions are automatic, you are straying from the right path. You can love out of fear, and you can learn out of fear, but fear contributes nothing. To love out of fear is one thing; to love consciously is another.

Favour is a manifestation of the Divine in humans. As long as one has an impulse to help, to do a favour, the Divine beginning is working within them. And when a person is grateful for even the smallest favour rendered to them, that is also a Divine manifestation. To do a favour means to be connected with the beginning of life, and to be grateful and appreciate the favours you receive means to be connected with the end of life. When these two connections unite, one achieves the most important thing in their life – serving God. This is why a person must be ready to serve and be grateful for the favours rendered to them.

There is one Truth that brings Freedom and Life. Truth does not exist by itself. It is an attribute of God. It is an expression of God’s greatness. When God wishes to manifest Himself in some way, He manifests through Truth.

I repeat that the Lord comes with fire to purify the earth, to strip away the old rags of people, to give them new bodies, to bring Love into their hearts, to uplift their minds, to remove from them all malice and hatred. This is what the Divine teaching proclaims in the new age. In the morning, when you get up, try saying: “Thank You, God, for the great grace that You have bestowed upon us. We know You to be good, all-merciful, all-truthful, and all-wise.” Repeat this every day for one month and come to me – you will see what the temperature of your soul will be then. That is the whole secret. If you repeat it for 10 months, it will be even better. This is the letter “A” – the beginning. Once, when I was your age, when I was studying this science, when I got up, I would begin my day with saying: “Thank You, God, for everything You have given me and taught me.” You too, should begin your day this way. “The Truth shall set you free.” To attain truth, you must pray for one another and wish good to all. Only the one who desires the enhancement of all people could be elevated themselves. They know that what is good for their soul is good for everyone. And the other way around – what is good for all is also good for them. This is how the scholar, the philosopher, and the musician must think. It is said: “No one lives for himself.” The organism is healthy to the extent that its individual members work in harmony with the whole. People live well and succeed in their endeavors to the extent that they are in harmony with God’s laws and the laws of reasonable nature. As long as one fulfils God’s will, one develops properly.

Whatever thought one chooses as the foundation of their life, this is what they become. That thought exerts a certain influence upon them. A person cannot escape the influence of their thoughts, nor their consequences. This is why, when a person chooses a form – a garment in which to clothe themselves – it must be beautiful and ideal, for within it are hidden the possibilities for the manifestation of their Spirit and mind, their soul and their heart. In order to be healthy, one must sing and play music. If not on the outside, at least on the inside people should sing. Whatever difficulties you may be going through – sing and do not worry. You are ill, you are poor, you have not eaten for three days – sing! When you sing, your matters will fall into place. Strong is the person who sings out of love and who believes that everything that happens in life is for the glory of God and for the good of all living beings. This is why it is said that everything that happens in the world is for the good of those who love the Lord.

Strive toward bright thoughts, feelings, and deeds, so that you yourselves may be content with your own life. Do not expect people to like you or to be pleased with you. You yourselves must be satisfied with yourselves. Only the one who carries music in their soul is truly content with themselves. They are satisfied with his singing, he understands which tones are pure and which are not. Once they understand both their own mistakes and those of others, they are true musicians. For them, not only singing is music, but also thinking, feeling, and speaking. Strive to see music everywhere and to practice it. Until you transform your life into music, you cannot connect with nature and benefit directly from its gifts.

Many children represent the countless desires of man. One child is enough – what matters is that you raise and educate them to become a good citizen both on earth and in heaven. When you place many mirrors before an image, it multiplies. From one you will obtain thousands. This represents the many human desires. They are nothing other than the reflection of a single human desire in many mirrors. What is that desire? The desire of the human soul to serve God and to merge with Him. The one and only desire of man is to find love, to know it, and to serve it. As long as one has not yet realised their desire, one will see it reflected in multiple mirrors, one will waver and live in illusion.

Some say they wish to be Sons of God. Only the one who is a channel of God’s Love can be a Son of God. They can be a student or a teacher; they can be a mother or a father. If you truly love a star, you will receive at least one word from it. Let us say that you turn to Sirius and love it as a Divine thought. It will say to you: “God is Love!” And if you ask why God is Love, it will say: “Because I live.” Some stars emit light: the Moon emits light, Sirius emits forth light. Since Sirius emits light, there is intelligence within it. Those that do not emit light have no intelligence within them – Love acts within them, but Divine Wisdom has not yet manifested. All stars say: “There is light in God, there is vastness!” When we look upward, we feel a sense of relief. If you again ask the stars why God is Love, they will answer: “We live because we love God, because God is Love!” Thus will a star speak to you. And if you wish to live, love Him – and you too will feel the same.

We speak of Love as something unknown, from which something known arises. What is known that arises from Love? Life. As it manifests today, life is the outward expression of Love. But what is Love itself? It is said that God is Love. That which sustains all of Being, the thoughts, feelings, and deeds of all intelligent beings – this we call Love. That which binds the minds and hearts of all people and flows through the entire cosmos – this we call Love. What this connection is cannot be expressed in words. You hear someone say that a certain person attracts them. How that person attracts them, they themselves do not know. You might say that they have a noble heart. But it is not only that. Many people have noble hearts, yet not all of them attract you. Moreover, you see the nobility of their heart while others do not. Therefore, when you love someone, it means that you have seen the unknown within them, i.e., the reality.

Many wish to know what love is. Do not rush – you cannot understand it all at once. Sow it in the ground as you sow a grain of wheat, and when it grows, blossoms, and bears fruit, then you will understand what it represents. Study the manifestations of love consciously and calmly, so as not to fall into illusion. Someone loves you and you rejoice in their love. But that love is not their own – it belongs to some sublime being that visits them periodically. While that being is within them, they love you. Once it departs from them, their love ceases. When you do not understand the manifestations of love, you suffer, you struggle, you are dissatisfied with them. Yet the loss of love is only on the surface. After a certain time the sublime being will visit them again, and they will once more express their love toward you. Therefore, never think that love is interrupted. It is continuous, passing from one person to another, with the purpose of giving something to each and elevating all.

A person learns both from joys and from sufferings. Suffering is a method for purifying the human heart. Just as water in Nature is purified through filtration and evaporation, so too does suffering subject the human heart to filtration and evaporation until it is purified. Thus the heart is cleansed both through joy and through suffering. When you rejoice, share your joy with your fellow man. When you suffer, keep your suffering to yourself. If you act this way, you gain in both cases. If you do the opposite – keeping your joy to yourself while sharing your suffering and sorrow with your fellow man – you lose in both cases. The one who does not understand this law seeks ways to unload their suffering onto the backs of others. This is not right. Your suffering you shall give to God, and your joy – to your neighbor.

Knowing this, do not take offense when someone says a hurtful word to you. He is on the stage, and so are you, and it is from there that you converse. Do not take offense, but look inside your own character to see whether you have any weakness. If your friend tells you that you are not a sincere person, seek that weakness within yourself and see whether, if you have it, you can correct it. Look deeply within yourself and find the root of that weakness. It may trace back to one of your ancestors. Once you find its root, you can free yourself from it. Therefore, when someone points out a weakness in you, do not be angry – instead be grateful that you have the opportunity to see it.

What do I ask of you, today’s people? I am asking that you seek the Lord, and not me. Christ also said: “The Word that I preach to you is the Lord. Seek Him, and not me.” Which of you, upon reading or hearing the parable of the ten virgins, has spent several days in reflection, seeking to fathom its inner meaning? It is enough to sincerely desire to understand something deeper, and a revelation will be given to you. Only in this way will you understand that you are one of the five wise virgins. You are the first virgin – the body – into which the remaining four enter: the mind, the heart, the soul, and the spirit. The five virgins merge with Christ into one whole. Until you rise to the height of your mind and enter the realm of your soul, you cannot understand Christ, you cannot merge with Him. The fault for this is not in you, but in the place where you have chosen to stand. Climb high, so that the entire horizon may open before you, so that you may see that the earth is not a dead body. She is a radiant woman who scatters light everywhere.

Whoever wishes to acquire more than what they have already achieved must study and learn, rather than wait for the Lord to settle their affairs. Work on the following four things: love, light, joy, and peace. These are four elements necessary for every soul. The first thing you must begin with is peace. Place peace as the foundation of your life; love and light – to your right, and joy – to your left. When complete unity is restored between the thoughts, feelings, and deeds of a person, they then possesses a deep inner peace. Peace represents a psychological force within a person, under which his abilities can develop calmly and steadily. When one ability develops, it will give rise to a second, a third, until all the mental abilities within a person are awakened. This implies correct growth and development.

Only reasonable people can amend the world. In this sense, all people are sent to earth for a great purpose. Every person must take part in the restoration of the world. How will this come about? When the small branches are told that they were created to develop the great tree, to give it life, to reveal its future glory, they are astonished and do not believe these words. They do not believe it, yet it is a fact. The leaves and branches of the tree receive vital juices from the roots, retain it, transform it within themselves, and send part of it back down to the roots. In this way a twofold flow of vital juices takes place – from below upward and from above downward –
as a result of which the entire tree develops until it finally bears its fruit. Once the leaves, branches, and blossoms disappear, the entire tree disappears along with them. Therefore all of humanity represents the great tree of life, the great universal soul, and every reasonable person is a leaf, a branch, or a blossom of that tree. Each one is placed precisely in their own place.

You now wish to be good. To achieve this, you must apply the law of good disposition and have absolute faith that you were created good. If you are not good, this shows that you have not worked sufficiently upon yourself to manifest the goodness placed within you. This does not mean that you are incapable, but that your consciousness has not yet awakened. Your consciousness must blossom and receive the Divine light. For now, the consciousness of many is a bud that must bloom and then bear fruit. Then a person opens himself to all people, to all living beings, just as ripe fruits smile upon the world.

To go back and from there to take the right path – this means to turn toward God. You feel confused and you do not know what to do. Turn to God and He will give you guidance. Birth, in the broadest sense, is a deep inner process. Everyone may encounter this process. Good things, joys, and successes in life depend on you. You yourselves have foretold your own failures. You yourselves believed that you could not study, that you could not graduate school. When does a person lose the meaning of life? When the lives by ordinary faith, ordinary hope, and ordinary love. In order not to lose the meaning of life, you must enter the realm of the extraordinary, where things neither change nor alter. The extraordinary is the greatness in life that bears all blessings. It is written in The Scripter: “Only God is good.” Why? Because only He carries within Himself everything that we need. This is the reason why God neither changes nor alters. There is no force in the world that can change the nature of God.

Today everyone speaks of love and seeks it, but when they find it, in the end it burns them. To speak of love means to manifest God, so that everyone may see and know Him. Otherwise, love has no meaning.

But when that fundamental Divine thought comes, it will be alive and one with you; it will develop like a newborn child. What Christianity calls “the coming of the Spirit” is this very Divine thought, which some call “the subconscious,” others “consciousness,” and still others “superconsciousness”; theosophists call it “the awakening of the higher Ego,” occultists call it “the manifestation of the sublime,” and so forth. Stand in the evening and say to your subconscious: “I wish to wake tomorrow at 4 o’clock,” and then forget it – your subconscious will wake you up at precisely the right time. But if you say it twice, it will not fulfil it. This means you have doubted it, and it is Divine. To the Divine, one speaks only once. If you say to a child once: “Stoyancho, go and buy 1 kilogram of sugar,” he will buy it. If you say it a second time, he will forget. Let us suppose you have a certain illness. Say to your subconscious: “I wish to be well in one week,” and then forget it. After one week you will be well. Your matters may be entangled somewhere. Do not rush. Stop and say to your subconscious, to yourself: “In one year I want my affairs to be settled.” Then stop. Nothing more! Do this and think no further about it. In one year your affairs will be settled. But you must put in faith. When you speak, you must believe.

The law is this: in any given situation, a person has as many prerequisites to speak the truth as to refuse it. In any given situation, a person can do both good and evil –
these are possibilities. Therefore, the strength of a person lies in choosing the possibility of good and the possibility of truth. This means that God has given you a law by which to act, and at the same time you have at your disposal both truth and falsehood. If you subordinate falsehood to truth, you are a powerful person. If you subordinate evil to good, you are a powerful person. If you subordinate injustice to righteousness, you are a powerful person. If you subordinate foolishness to wisdom, you are a powerful person. If you subordinate hatred to love, you are a powerful person. And conversely: anyone can become a plaything of fate.

If you use your energy recklessly in an inner struggle, your life will lose its meaning. True life does not consist in the consumption of energy, but in building and acquiring. The connection with love is one of the most favourable currents in nature. It is a wave that elevates and ennobles people.

I will now give you a simple formula that you may use in all circumstances of your life, whether good or bad. Whatever good or evil may befall you, immediately pronounce this formula within yourself and see what happens in your soul. The formula is as follows: “Lord, I bless You thousands and billions of times.” Say the formula only when you have no ill thoughts. Even if you find yourself in the greatest evil or misfortune, do not say: “Lord, am I the greatest sinner in the world?” Say instead the new formula: “Lord, I bless You thousands and billions of times.” As long as you consider yourself a great sinner, you are in the innermost circle – alone and abandoned. The moment you say: “Lord, I bless You thousands and billions of times,” you will immediately find yourself in the outermost circle, you will have strength and life. Love is the sole fruit of the Spirit. The Scripture also says that Love is the first fruit of the Spirit. In Love lies immortality. People often speak of the elixir of life, of the water of life, but first they must learn to love. He who wishes to become immortal must learn to love. In Love lies the secret of rejuvenation; in Love lies the secret of Eternal life. In Love lies the secret of acquiring all the blessings that a person seeks. But one must know how to attain these things. Love manifests in two ways: the Love that flows from you toward me, and the Love that flows from others and pours into you. That is to say, love that flows from you and pours into your fellow men, and love that flows from your fellow men and pours into you. If you can grasp these two aspects of Love and unite them into one, you will find that connection from which immortal life begins. If you unite these two aspects with equal denominators but different numerators, you will find the bond of immortality. This is a science.

The scholars of the past sought ways to transform unrefined metals into noble ones and ordinary stones into precious gems. What do unrefined metals and ordinary stones represent in human life? They are the mistakes of people. The task of contemporary people is to transform their mistakes and weaknesses into virtues – that is, into noble metals and precious stones. When Love enters a person, it will transform their mistakes and weaknesses into noble metals and precious stones. There is no mistake or weakness in a person that Love cannot transform into gold and diamond. It will ennoble everything that is ignoble and transform life from hell into paradise. We shall say this: “We have the right in this world to grow, to develop, to blossom, to bear fruit, and to ripen! And this inner process that has been given to us, no one has the right to stop. No one has the right to stop the Divine within us!” This, as disciples, you shall know. “No force in the world is capable of obstructing my growth! The only wholesome food for modern man is plant-based – it softens his coarse nature. In the future, humanity will reach such a level of development that it will be able to draw the necessary nutrients directly from Living Nature. Today people extract the nutrients for their own organisms from plants and animals, but in time they will draw them directly from Nature. And this food will be pure, perfect, and completely wholesome. These will be the finest essences that a person today cannot even imagine.

Let the fear of poverty cease in the world. That is the teaching of Christ. You fear death. Meet it and say: “We shall fight against it.” They may wish to cast you into prison; say within yourself: “We shall struggle against the one who bears death, through the power of the One Who lives within us – through the One True God.” The entire world may rise up against you; they may try to frighten you; do not be frightened. A person who is easily frightened cannot become a citizen of the Kingdom of God.

Once you see a sin within yourself, seize it by the head and the tail and ask it where it came from. It came from somewhere. Hold it until it confesses. However, this primary meaning of knowledge has now been lost, and today by the word knowledge we understand only the external relationships of things. Fasting aims to free a person from the fear that if they do not eat for several days, they will starve. On the other hand, through fasting a person is purified and strengthened. It purifies the body, the thoughts, and the feelings. Fasting should last only as long as one feels vigorous and strong. If one becomes greatly weakened and their strength entirely abandons them, such a fast has no meaning. It is written in the Scripture that when a person fasts, no one should know of it. Of course, when one fasts, they will inevitably lose a little weight and grow somewhat thinner, but they should still preserve their strength. What is the point of fasting until one loses all strength and begins to drag oneself along? In such a state he will provoke either pity or mockery from others. If you can fast in such a way that you remain cheerful, with a lively spirit, and no one can tell – that fast has a meaning. In this way a person can fast for ten or more days. He who cannot fast in this manner should not undertake a long fast, but fast for only one or two days.

Once you have verified it, then share it – for then it has double the strength: on the one hand, what I have told you, and on the other, what you yourself have tried and verified. Make the attempt, and when it proves true, tell someone else so that they may verify it too. The fourth tells a fifth, the fifth tells a sixth, and so on. Acting in this way, it grows stronger and becomes like a great wave.

You want people to love you and understand you, and when you do not find this, you become disappointed. I ask: do you give the same to others? If someone comes to you, how will you show your love? If a young woman comes to a young man, he will immediately tear off a piece of paper and write: “Since I saw you, my heart has been set alight; I cannot live without you.” I ask: can love be expressed on paper? Love has no expression on the outside; it expresses itself only inside us.
